Dropbox, free and simple file sharing

Dropbox is the latest way to share files across the internet with friends and colleagues - including your VA - and its free for Windows, Mac, Linux and Mobile users. Unlike many of its predecessors, it's simple to use too - the website is clean-cut and easy to use too - and installing the tool on your PC is quick and simple.

If you are not a Microsoft Groove user - where peer-to-peer synchronisation happens automatically without fuss - and you are looking for a free file sharing tool, then Dropbox could be for you. Basically, it synchronises files in normal-looking folders on your PC with your other machines and other people too. Find out more from www.dropbox.com

We have downloaded it in the office and it looks good. Dropbox takes away the laborious uploading and downloading that you get with file sharing sites, just like Groove. It is free for up to 2GB of storage, and then you have to pay to upgrade: $9.99 per month for 50GB and $19.99 per month for 100GB. For most of our client file sharing situations 2GB would be sufficient. We haven't used this with a client yet, but when we do we'll post a blog on how well it works.

Like many web apps these days, add-ons quickly appear to make your life easier. So, if you want to share files, but don't want to have your own Dropbox account then you can use a new app called AirDropper (only beta test version available today). This allows you to share files with a Dropbox user via email.... "how cool is that" as they say in Silicon Valley! Find out more from www.airdropper.com or read this short article about AirDropper on the WebWorkerDaily website.
