SatNav broken?... Call your PA

On a recent motorcycle tour around Ireland, all was going well until our SatNav packed up. The plan was to book the first night in advance and then use the SatNav to identify local camp sites to wherever we happened to be - a great plan, assuming the SatNav was working. It's difficult to find an Information Centre on the remote West Coast of Ireland, and the chance of stumbling across a camp site was as remote as these sites themselves.

Thankfully, we had a Virtual PA to call on. We simply set a rough destination for the day's ride, text her with the nearest town, she located/booked the best camp site in the area and text us back with the details. Naturally, we briefed her by phone with the type of site we were looking for and our minimum spec - after all, there's roughing-it and there's really roughing-it. She was able to research the sites, make calls and generally do a far better job than we would have done whilst travelling. And, this way, we could enjoy the ride without the fuss.

Thanks to the perfect weather, we had no last minute switches to B&B. Part of the original plan was to dive into a warm, dry B&B at the first sight of rain - again, there's roughing-it and there's total misery roughing-it in the rain. I'm sure our Virtual PA would have made dealing with that easier as well.

Next year, we'll be using a SatNav for navigating and a Virtual PA for organising and support whilst on the road. It sounds like a perfect solution.
