Fancy a 4-hour working week?

How many of us would dearly love to earn a decent living working only 4 hours per week? Most, I'd say, its the holy grail of personal wealth generation.

Some people do manage to pull it off, and Tim Ferris has written a book on how to do it, based on his success and experiences. His book "The 4-Hour Work Week" is based on the premise that you focus on your ideal lifestyle, come up with a great business idea and get others to do all the grunt work whilst you rake in the money. And, outsourcing to Virtual Assistants is a critical component.

Whilst it may sound too good to be true - it probably is for most people - the book is well worth a read and will benefit a lot of people who are searching for a "better way" to make a living. Personally, I found the thinking compelling, if only to alter the way we normally think of "doing business", and it will help focus on what you want out of life and how best to spend your time.

The "Plan", if that's the right word, is in four stages:
  1. Definition (your ideal lifestyle)
  2. Elimination (stopping pointless tasks)
  3. Automation (outsource most other tasks)
  4. Liberation (finding a "muse" to earn shed loads of money)
You can't really argue with defining what you want out of life, and eliminating non-essential tasks will stop us becoming busy fools.... remind me, why do I spend time writing this blog? Automating your work - outsource low level or routine admin tasks to a Virtual Assistant - is good news, and it gives us a purpose: to help you make a decent living whilst only working 4 hours a week!

The flaw in all this is obvious: not everyone can work a 4 hour week, someone (like us) has to do all the essential admin and support work. As you'd expect, the key is coming up with the money-making idea, if you have that you can learn to do the rest. So, I'd better crack-on and put my thinking hat on.

Bye the way, I came across this book through a client. And yes, you've guessed it, he's living his life by the book: earning a good living and outsourcing all his support work. So, its not a total pipe dream, it can work.
