Problems PDFing docments with lots of images?

Missing images after using Adobe Acrobat to PDF a document is a problem that seems to affect consultants compiling complex reports loaded with images and tables. When they PDF their document, they find some of the images are omitted - its frustrating, but straight forward to fix.

First, locate the troublesome image. Do a "Cut" then use "Paste Special" (Home Tab, under Paste) and select the "Picture (Enhanced Metafile)" or "Picture (Windows Metafile) type. It's the default "Microsoft Office Graphic Object" and some of the other image types that seems to cause this problem - the precise reason remains a mystery.

The image will be inserted as an "In Line" image, so you may need to click the image and go to the Format Tab, Position and select one of the "With Text Wrapping" options. All of these positions allow you to drag & drop the image around the page.

Now, re-try PDFing the document. Sometimes you may find other previously okay images are affected. In this case, you'll have to chase them around the document until you fix all of them. Also, watch out for images imbedded in tables as these often play up on PDFing.

This is a common problem and one example of the everyday IT Support that many clients need.
