Mini recorders for meeting notes

A new client asked us if we could find a simple way to record voice notes for his VA to type-up - mainly, ad hoc memos and meeting notes - without the hassle of learning to use a full blown dictation machine such as those from Phillips and Olympus. If you are dictating correspondence and reports you definitely need a more sophisticated machine that allows you to rewind, insert, etc... but, not so for simple notes.

On looking around, we found a really neat piece of kit which fits the bill perfectly: the Sandisk Mini USB Digital Voice Recorder. The Scandisk DVR10 comes in various memory sizes, but we found the 4GB model (£22.95 from Amazon, May 2001) ideal. It looks like a USB Memory Stick, with one-button record, and when you're done, you simply plug it into your PC and attach the files to an email. The WAV file format will play on most media players, and your Virtual Assistant can use ExpressScribe without messy file conversion for audio typing.

We ordered 4 of these in the end. The client now has his team of 3 salesmen using them and they're chuffed with the kit and the virtual typing service we provide... let's hope it helps them to sell more heating systems!
